Motorola RAZR HD running ICS spotted in the wild, 720p display in tow

Image

Last week, a Motorola engineer's Picasa album all but confirmed the existence of the Motorola Droid RAZR HD. And while we can't say his job has a future, it looks like this handset does. The latest leak includes some newly discovered blurry cam photos from China showing Motorola model MT887 running ICS. This matches the EXIF data posted by that errant engineer, which listed the RAZR HD's build as 4.0.3. According to the latest images, the RAZR HD sports a 4.3-inch display -- with an upgraded resolution of 720p -- though the other specs appear to match the current batch of RAZRs. As Android Community points out, that relatively bulky body could mean there's a 3,300mAH battery inside. That's all well and good -- unless Motorola also has a Droid HD RAZR Maxx set to launch a month after this guy. Then again, who would be so cruel as to pit your hopes for a higher-res RAZR against your dreams of an even longer-lasting smartphone?

ITC issues preliminary ruling, finds Microsoft's Xbox 360 infringes on Motorola patents

Potential bad news to start out the week for Microsofties: a judge from the US International Trade Commission has issued a preliminary ruling that finds Microsoft's Xbox 360 infringes on five of Motorola's patents. While the decision is by no means final -- which means that the Redmond outfit could ultimately prevail -- a final ruling would force Microsoft's hand to seek proper licenses for the technologies, most of which relate to H.264 video encoding, or have its gaming console banned from US shelves. For now, the lawyers will go back to the lab to refine their arguments and get ready to present them to a full panel of ITC judges later this year. Who wants to set odds on the outcome?

HTC One V coming to Canada on Bell, will reunite with One S

Image

Canadians looking to hunt down the smallest addition to HTC's One series are in luck. According to a Mobile Syrup tipster, it'll arrive on Bell next week, in all its aluminum unibody glory. While the One X looks to be confined to Rogers in the Land of the Maple Leaf, both the One S and One V are going to be offered by Bell Mobility. The mole also hinted at pricing below CND $300, matching those entry-level credentials we've explored just recently. Not a fan of Bell? Don't get disheartened -- the Android 4.0 minnow will also make an appearance on Telus, so 'chin' up.

Valve's DOTA 2 Will be Free to Play | Geekosystem

DOTA 2 free-to-play Vale

If you don?t play MMOs, don?t play PC games, don?t have a smartphone or play games on one, or have been living under many rocks specially designed to withstand any kind of penetration from entertainment media, it is probably a surprise that the new, surging business model in the world of video games is that they?re being released for the low, low price of free. Just about every MMO nowadays is free to play, and some games that aren?t MMOs are starting to follow suit, especially in the smartphone gaming market. So, though it is great news for fans of MOBAs and Valve, it shouldn?t really be a surprise that DOTA 2 will be free to play.

In an interview on the podcast, Seven Day Cooldown, Gaben himself said Valve?s upcoming take on the MOBA genre will indeed be free to play, but with a twist!

?It?s going to be free-to-play ? it?ll have some twists, but that?s the easiest way for people to think about it.?

He didn?t say exactly what the twists will be, but he did say that players that are more valuable to the community might get some special perks. Considering the MOBA genre, though super fun to play, generally contains the most vile, hateful communities compared to other online gaming communities (a mystery that I will never be able to solve), I, for one, would love if Valve somehow figures out how to offer special perks to players who act like decent folk.

Newell acknowledges the fact that online communities tend to be, um, unpleasant, at times:

?We?re trying to figure out ways so that people who are more valuable to everybody else [are] recognized and accommodated. We all know people where if they?re playing we want to play, and there are other people where if they?re playing we would [rather] be on the other side of the planet.?

DOTA 2 doesn?t currently have a release date, and I?m sure Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends would rather it stay that way, but until that fateful day, players can rest easy knowing that DOTA 2 will adopt the ever-present free-to-play model.
