It is free for users to sign up for Wave Payroll, and running the service costs $5 or less per employee per month.
In addition, Wave will offer an option to handle tax filings and deposits for a flat fee of $25 per employer per month beginning in January 2013.
With so many different accounting options available, it can be difficult to find the one that best fits your company?s needs without going overboard and paying for a lot of features you simply won?t use.
And although there is no shortage of options to choose from, Wave?s automated system that?s been built specifically for small business users could now become a viable option for American small businesses.

Fixing Broken Fitness Promises | The Best Life Blog: Fitness, Weight ...
Remember how several months ago, I vowed to get back to the gym? Well, I have a confession: I didn?t keep my promise?not even close. I thought I had run out of excuses for avoiding exercise. But what do you know? I managed to find a few more. To be completely honest, the only gym-related task that has been on my to-do list since April was calling to cancel unlimited babysitting. Why pay the $20 monthly fee when neither me nor my kids have seen the inside of the gym in months?
But then one morning, after a near mental breakdown from the combination of work stress, family stress and life stress, my husband urged me to go back to the gym. He offered to stay with the kids (who, to refresh your memory, enjoy the gym?s day care center about as much as most adults enjoy a trip to the DMV) in the morning on the days he goes into work late. And my work typically doesn?t get busy until a little later in the day?so why not?
I wrestled with a little guilt?my husband also belongs to the gym and never gets to go. Somehow, I managed to push that aside and laced up my sneakers. And it did me good. Not only did I burn calories and strengthen my long-ignored muscles, but I learned that I deserve some form of escape, a way to release all of that stress.
I went regularly for a few weeks, and then Hurricane Sandy hit. Suddenly, I was too busy scavenging for gas to worry about getting to the gym. Exercise seemed like a luxury, and I was in survival mode. But when I thought about it, I realized I was still getting in plenty of activity. We spent more time outdoors since there was no TV, kicking around a soccer ball or just walking around the neighborhood to see how the storm had damaged our quiet neighborhood. We walked a little more since gas was so limited. We carried heavy gas cans from the station to our cars, and from our cars to our generator.
Thankfully, things have settled back down again. I have to admit, I am looking forward to getting back to the gym again. This time, I really mean it?I promise!

JobsOhio group starts ad campaign promoting Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? Ohio's private job-creation entity has launched a $1.4 million ad campaign to promote economic development in the state.
JobsOhio's Thrive in Ohio ads run through early December. Officials say they're designed to spread the word about Ohio people and businesses thriving economically and draw others to Ohio.
The campaign includes a mix of television, print and online advertising. It features a 30-second television commercial on most major networks in the state and print ads in major newspapers in Ohio and around the country. A ThriveInOhio.com website has also been launched to share success stories.
Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald criticized the campaign as promoting Gov. John Kasich using public money.
JobsOhio President John Minor said the spots show Ohioans are getting back to work and businesses are growing.

Owl feathers inspire quieter change

An owl glides by on silent wings. Many holiday travelers probably wish airplanes could do the same.?
"On airplanes, the back edge of the wing is where you get most of the noise," Justin Jaworski, a mathematician at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, told TechNewsDaily. "My work is looking at developing theoretical models to explain trailing-edge noise."
Most recently, he and his colleague Nigel Peake showed, mathematically, that the noise from airplane wings could be reduced tenfold if their designers took a few cues from the feathers that fringe the trailing edge of an owl's wings.?
In their latest research, Jaworski and Peake found that owl wings are especially quiet in part because their trailing-edge feathers are flexible and porous, allowing some air through. Plane wings, of course, are hard and solid. But the pair found that if the edge of a plane's wings were perforated in a particular way, "the theory says you should be able to reduce noise as if there were not an edge there at all," Jaworski said.
Makers of real planes might have a difficult time taking that suggestion. Holes in the wings might reduce a plane's aerodynamics too much for the companies' liking, Jaworski said. Also, flexible trailing edges might flap in the wind, which would also reduce aerodynamics. These are issues that other engineers would work out in later stages of research, Jaworski said. He collaborates with experimental researchers to uncover the engineering trade-offs in his ideas.
In any case, the findings are still in their earliest stages, and it might take two or three years before the ideas for a quieter airplane wing are tested with a small model in a wind tunnel, Jaworski said. After? wind tunnel tests, even more research would go into seeing whether the ideas would be cost-effective in real planes.
Meanwhile, the Cambridge researchers continue to refine their model and study owl wings for further secrets into their quiet flight, Jaworski said.?
On the theory side, the next step is to study other features of owl wings that are not common to noisier flapping birds such as pigeons. "We're really excited about looking at this downy material on top," Jaworski said, referring to a unique, soft covering owl wings have. He said the down covering is difficult to model mathematically, no one has studied it before, and it may be especially important to quiet flight.
Jaworski presented his and Peake's research Nov. 18 in San Diego at a conference hosted by the American Physical Society.

Mexico's president tries to change country's name
MEXICO CITY (AP) ? Mexico's president is making one last attempt to get the "United States" out of Mexico ? at least as far as the country's name is concerned.
The name "United Mexican States," or "Estados Unidos Mexicanos," was adopted in 1824 after independence from Spain in imitation of Mexico's democratic northern neighbor, but it is rarely used except on official documents, money and other government material.
Still, President Felipe Calderon called a news conference Thursday to announce that he wants to make the name simply "Mexico." His country doesn't need to copy anyone, he said.
Calderon first proposed the name change as a congressman in 2003 but the bill did not make it to a vote. The new constitutional reform he proposed would have to be approved by both houses of Congress and a majority of Mexico's 31 state legislatures.
However, Calderon leaves office on Dec. 1, raising the question of whether his proposal is a largely symbolic gesture. His proposal was widely mocked on Twitter as a ridiculous parting shot from a lame-duck president.
Calderon said that while the name change "doesn't have the urgency of other reforms," it should be seen as a relevant issue. "Mexico doesn't need a name that emulates another country and that no one uses on a daily basis," he said.
The United States looms larger than perhaps any other country in the Mexican cultural imagination: Mexicans follow U.S. sports teams, watch U.S. television shows and buy U.S.-made products. For many, however, there is also resentment of a larger and more powerful northern neighbor that's often seen as ignoring or looking down its nose at Mexico.
Calderon has tried to keep Mexico's international image, and its vital tourism industry, from being tarred by the waves of violence set off by his six-year, militarized offensive against drug cartels. At least 47,500 people have died in cartel-related violence during his term in office, although the number is believed to be far higher, since his administration stopped releasing an official count last year.
A poll released this week by the Vianovo consulting firm said that half of all Americans view Mexico unfavorably and more than 70 percent believe it's unsafe to travel south of the border. The poll of 1,000 adults had a margin of error of four percentage points.
"It's time for Mexicans to return to the beauty and simplicity of the name of our country, Mexico," Calderon said. "A name that we chant, that we sing, that makes us happy, that we identify with, that fills us with pride."

Rutgers joins the Big Ten, leaving Big East behind
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) ? Rutgers is joining the Big Ten, leaving the Big East behind and cashing in on the school's investment in a football program that only 10 years ago seemed incapable of competing at the highest level.
The school announced its decision Tuesday at a campus news conference attended by Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, Rutgers President Robert Barchi and athletic director Tim Perenetti.
"The Big Ten is really where Rutgers belongs," Barchi said.
Rutgers has been competing in the Big East since 1991. But the league has been picked apart by conference realignment, and the Scarlet Knights were looking for a way out.
They landed in the best possible spot. A spot that seemed unthinkable a decade ago when Rutgers football was a Big East cellar-dweller.
"It's a transformative day for Rutgers University," Pernetti said.
The move follows Maryland's announcement Monday that it was joining the Big Ten in 2014.
Rutgers also plans to join its new conference in 2014, though the Big East requires 27 months' notification for departing members. The Scarlet Knights will have to negotiate a deal with the Big East to leave early.
Whenever Rutgers enters the Big Ten, it will be the culmination of one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college sports.
In 2002, the Scarlet Knights football team went 1-11 under second-year coach Greg Schiano, who then seemed like the latest coach incapable of reviving a program that had been a college football laughingstock for more than a decade.
The team, however, made steady improvement as the university made the huge financial commitment necessary to support major college football.
Facilities were upgraded, the on-campus stadium was expanded and as Schiano started to win, his salary began to rise into the millions. Not everyone on campus embraced the idea of turning Rutgers into a big-time football school, and it did come with a big price tag.
The expanded and renovated stadium cost of $102 million. The school had hoped to raise the money through private donors, but fell short. Rutgers scaled back plans for the expansion and issued bonds and borrowed money to complete the project.
In 2006, the school had to cut six varsity sports, including men's tennis and crew. As the football team has become a consistent winner ? Rutgers has gone to a bowl six of the last seven years ? the athletic department has received tens of millions in subsidies from the university.
Schiano left for the NFL last year, and Rutgers hired longtime assistant Kyle Flood, who has the Scarlet Knights poised to take make another big step. No. 21 Rutgers (9-1) is in position to win its first Big East championship and go to a BCS game for the first time.
In the Big Ten, the revenue Rutgers receives from the league's television and media deals should quadruple in the short term and could be even more than that in years to come.
The Big Ten reportedly paid its members about $24 million last year. The Big East's payout to football members last year was $6 million.
In exchange, the Big Ten gets a member in the largest media market in the country, and new presence along the East Coast, with Rutgers and Maryland as north and south bookends.

Aristotle's Theory Concerning Moral Responsibility
According to Aristotle's theory concerning moral responsibility, there is neither hard nor fast rule for ascertaining whether a person who has acted due to coercion is blameworthy. Coerced acts tend to be strictly voluntary; therefore, they never get automatic disqualification from responsibility (Eche?ique 14). Thus, responsibility is dependent on facts concerning the situation, for instance the gravity of the threat, along with the temperament of the coerced act.
Aristotle believes that every human being has a responsibility for his or her actions, something that makes others reasonably praise, blame or even punish him or her; he shows this by pointing out various conditions, which lessen or even cancel this responsibility. He converses force of occurrences, threats, along with coercion, bad character, ignorance and intoxication. Taken together, his version shows the basic concepts involved in being a person who ends up getting reasonably praised or blamed.
The primary limitation concerning voluntary action is the force of circumstances. Aristotle gives an example about a ship caught in a storm; in this case, the sailors have to throw goods overboard to avoid the sinking of the ship. Here, the action is not entirely voluntary; therefore the sailors are not to blame for their actions. On the other hand, the storm is not to blame for the undesirable outcome, which is the loss of the goods since it is a natural event that no one is responsible.
Another example is the case whereby my friend accidentally pushes me as a result of getting pushed by a bully; here, she is not to blame considering that it was not here intention to push me, rather, she got pushed, and as a result, ended up pushing me. These cases are extreme instances of the force of necessity whereby we always live and always get forced into our actions by natural facts, though we only notice this when the force happens to be sudden or unexpected (Williams 25). When it comes to responsibility atttributions, interference by other people is what causes grief and problems. This interference tends to take many forms; however, its paradigmatic forms happen to be coercion and manipulation. Concerning coercion, the judgment by Aristotle get balanced since it is dependent on what act my coercer is demanding from me, as well as the threats he is making.
On the other hand, there are some actions, which tend to be extremely heinous that we must be blamed for carrying them out, whatever a person gets threatened with, together with whatever blame also tends to be attached to the coercer; hence Aristotle dismisses the thought that a man may be compelled to killing his mother (Williams 45). Apparently, a central issue at stake when it comes to attributions of responsibility happens to be the expectations that people have each other. Although there are some kinds of coercion that we do not normally expect people to oppose, there are also some forms of action that people should never embark on, regardless of such features. In these cases praise, together with blame tends to work on clarifying and to reinforce these expectations through the provision of a form of moral education.
What determines appropriate or immoral character happens to be the manner in which a person reacts when he discovers the truth or failing to regret their deeds, then they can be blamed, albeit the original choice being justifiable. According to Aristotle, our praise and blame is in most cases, not about an individual act; rather, it is about the character of the one who acted. Importantly, not every form of ignorance gets excused since moral knowledge happens to be extremely distinctive from factual knowledge (Eche?ique 49). However, if a person tends to be morally ignorant, he or she ends up being unable to choose well; here, Aristotle grants that the majority of people of settled villainous character, whether they are morally ignorant or otherwise, are incapable of choosing to act well.
This does not mean that blame is either incoherent or misplaced since even if the vicious person is incapable of choosing to act now, there was a time when his vices were not fixed, when he was capable of choosing not to be vicious thus he can be blamed. Aristotle is famous for emphasizing the significance of proper upbringing, along with habituation considering that the majority of vices got created in childhood, prior to people forming capacities for thinking reasonably with many vices undercutting the capacity for balanced deliberation.
This is a clear inference of Aristotle's own account, whereby the badly brought up person might never be in a position of choosing not to be vicious. Interestingly, that the majority of vices tend to take the shape of moral ignorance, of not being aware that certain things are wrong or even fail in recognizing that certain actions are a representation of wrong-doing. The problem is that the vicious person is incapable or unwilling to see his own vices as such; in this case he is in no position of taking control since he sees no reason in acting differently in the future. However, this does not signify that there is no reason for blaming her, most obviously since there might be hope that blame will be helpful in educating him, morally speaking.
In instances whereby a person seems incorrigible and they get quite settled in some vice, either because he/she is incapable of understanding the criticism or unable to change character or habits, which in most cases, it tend to be somewhere in between. These cases are extremely common, and unless there is an assumption that they are not morally appalling, they tend to undermine the current Kantian assumption, which states that blame should relate just to conduct under a person's control (Williams 76).
Apparently, if we assume a character trait is beyond change, by us or the concerned person, our blaming will not involve an attempt of reasoning with the person getting condemned; rather, our condemnation might take another rationale like clarifying what standards we expect of other people. >>> scene in the far rockaway section of queens in new york city today. hundreds lined up to get food and water from the national guard and nypd. among the items being handed out. blankets from the new york marathon that was cancelled. in one area particularly hard hit, staten island . the problems are piling up. when you have a problem, send in the marines, well, they did, as stephanie gosk found out there today.
>> reporter: marines on patrol. this season thele monday province, it's the storm ravaged streets of long island. 50 marines in a community that need the muscle. especially the merchants.
>> it's a huge job. they said, no problem, we can do it.

(Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, is pursuing the White House for the second time.
Here are key facts about him.
- Romney, 65, espouses traditional Republican positions to cut taxes, reduce federal regulations, shrink government spending and bolster the U.S. military. He vows to create 12 million new jobs in his first term with a plan focused on domestic energy development, expanded free trade, improving education, reducing the deficit and championing small business.
- He lost the 2008 Republican presidential nomination to Senator John McCain but entered this year's race with a large campaign war chest and the blessing of many in the party establishment. Conservative unease over his reputation as a moderate led to a stiff challenge in the Republican primaries.
- His net worth has been estimated at between $190 million and $250 million, making him one of the wealthiest people to ever run for the presidency. Romney has been attacked for holding money overseas and for not disclosing as many tax releases as his opponents have demanded.
- Romney proposes to lower individual income taxes across the board to 20 percent while closing some loopholes, which he says would stimulate economic growth without widening the deficit. He supports restructuring the Social Security retirement program and the Medicare health entitlement for the elderly.
- He is a fifth-generation member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or Mormon church. He was a Mormon missionary in France for more than two years after leaving high school and later became bishop and stake president in Boston, roles akin to being a lay pastor. - In 1994, the younger Romney ran for a U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts as a moderate Republican, but was handily defeated by incumbent Democratic Senator Edward Kennedy. Eight years later, Romney was elected governor of Massachusetts, where he instituted a statewide healthcare reform that became a model for Obama's 2010 national healthcare overhaul.
- In 1999, Romney took over as head of the committee organizing the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, which had been plagued by cost overruns and scandal, and produced a successful event that helped establish his national reputation as a premier problem-solver.
- As his party moved to the right, Romney changed his positions on sensitive social issues, including abortion and gay rights. That fueled criticism that he lacked core beliefs and was motivated only by ambition. Romney referred to himself as "severely conservative" during the 2012 primaries but has projected a moderate image during the general election campaign.
- Romney met his wife, Ann, at a high school dance and they married in 1969, while they were still in college. They have five sons and 18 grandchildren. Romney has an English degree from Utah's Brigham Young University, which is owned and run by the Mormon church, and a joint law degree and MBA from Harvard. He speaks French.
